Navel Newhall Oranges

The Newhall variety is highly appreciated among the Sicilian oranges, due to the sweet taste of its yellow juice and due to the low level of acid. The look of the Sicilian Navel orange is characteristic due to its typical twin fruit (called, indeed, navel): a mutation caused the orange to develop a second fruit at its base, opposite the stem, embedded within the peel of the primary orange; the slices are juicy and their sweetness is the result of a low acidity/sugar degree ratio.

Organoleptic and Nutraceutical Information

Newhall oranges can be considered less acid oranges compared to other varieties in the
group. Indeed, the percentage of acidity varies from 1 to 1.5%. It is interesting to
note how this variety with a blond pulp can stay attached longer to the plant
compared to the ripening period, consequently increasing the concentration of
sugar within the oranges.
